Este é o terceiro e último post dedicado ao génio criativo de Merrell Fankhauser, na circunstância com os Mu, a banda que formou após o fim dos HMS Bounty. O tom era ainda distintamente psicadélico, se bem que temperado por um som bluesy que acaba por conferir aos Mu um carácter muito próprio e bastante sedutor. Esta reedição da Sundazed inclui, além do homónimo álbum de originais gravado em Los Angeles e editado em 1971, alguns singles e ainda a totalidade das sessões de gravação captadas num estúdio do Hawaii em 1974 daquele que seria o abortado segundo disco da banda.

Third and last post dedicated to Merrell Fankhauser's creative genius, with the one and only album with his post-HMS Bounty band Mu. Recorded in a Los Angeles studio in 1971, the overall sound was still clearly psychedelic, but with lush bluesy overtones, making it very personal and quite indescribable. This Sundazed reissue features a couple of singles and a bonus disc with the 1974 Hawaii studio sessions for what never became the proper second Mu record.

Depois do folk-rock psicadélico ainda um pouco incipiente dos Fapardokly, Merrell Fankhauser aventurou-se com os H.M.S. Bounty num estilo pop bem mais complexo, se bem que ainda com evidentes influências psicadélicas e do folk-rock, aproximando o som da banda de outras referências californianas da época (The Byrds, Moby Grape, Buffalo Springfield). Como é hábito, esta reedição da Sundazed inclui ainda três temas extra que de certa forma apontam já na direcção dos Mu.

After the light psych-folk-rock of his previous Fapardokly project, Merrell Fankhauser moved on with the more complex and pop orientated H.M.S. Bounty. Nevertheless, the psychedelic and folk-rock influences are still quite evident, a lot like what other California bands were sounding at the time (The Byrds, Moby Grape, Buffalo Springfield). As usual, this Sundazed reissue includes some bonus tracks who already point the way to Mu.

Este é o melhor sítio para começar a conhecer o culto em redor de Merrell Fankhauser, o seu álbum de estreia editado em 1967 sob o nome de Fapardokly, em boa hora recuperada pelo programa de reedições da Sundazed com algumas faixas extras. Desta tão esquecida quanto eclética preciosidade de psych-folk-rock, supostamente gravada algures no deserto californiano, Fankhauser prosseguiria a sua carreira formando os H.M.S. Bounty.

Those interested in the work of cult figure Merrell Fankhauser should start with this, his very first album released in 1967 under the Fapardokly moniker, reissued by Sundazed with some bonus tracks. From this eclectic and forgotten gem of psych-folk-rock, allegedly recorded somewhere in the California desert, Fankhauser would carry on forming his next band H.M.S. Bounty.

BODY - The Body Album

Integrando Tony Alliston na guitarra, o seu irmão Gary na bateria e o baixista Ronnie Nelson, a formação dos Body data de 1971. A banda ganhou alguma notoriedade e um certo culto graças à componente fortemente "espacial" dos seus concertos ao vivo que lhes valeu algumas comparações aos Pink Floyd. O disco "The Body Album" acabou apenas por ver a luz do dia já tardiamente, saindo em 1981 na própria editora da banda, e é hoje considerado como um clássico esquecido do prog-rock, sendo que o vinil original é bastante raro e altamente coleccionável.

Formed in 1971 by guitarist Tony Alliston, his brother Gary Alliston (drums) and Ronnie Nelson (bass guitar), the band earned a well-deserved cult following for their 'spacey' live shows, described by reviewers as similar to early Pink Floyd. The original 1981 LP, 'The Body Album', released on the band's own Recession label, is regarded as a very rare and highly collectable prog should-be-classic.

Um grande disco duma banda normalmente esquecida.

A quite unique crossover of pop, psychedelic music and avant-garde experiments, the United States of America only album remains a fascinating pearl in the late 60s catalogue, hinting more at the future of popular music than the musicians themselves would probably have imagined at the time. KALEIDOSCOPE - Tangerine Dream

Os ingleses Kaleidoscope – não confundir com os bem mais conhecidos americanos do mesmo nome, de quem aliás eram contemporâneos – estrearam-se com este fantástico álbum, cruzando a sonoridade psicadélica típica da época (denotando claras influências dos Pink Floyd de Syd Barrett) e doces baladas devedoras da tradição folk britânica. Ainda haveriam de editar um segundo ( e igualmente excelente) segundo álbum antes de mudarem o nome para Fairfield Parlour.

Amazing debut by the british Kaleidoscope – not to be confused with the american band of the same name – fusing the psychedelic sound of the time (clearly influenced by Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd) with gentle folk ballads. They issued a second (and equally excellent) second album before changing their name to Fairfield Parlour.
